The Åland Islands, an autonomous, Swedish-speaking region of Finland, celebrate Åland's Autonomy Day (June 9), marking the 1922 self-government law - a holiday that exists nowhere else in Finland. Midsummer is kept on the Swedish pattern (Friday-Saturday) rather than Finland's own slightly different Midsummer dates, reflecting the islands' closer cultural ties to Sweden than to mainland Finland.
