                          About Public Holidays in Bermuda

Bermuda's calendar mixes British-pattern holidays (Boxing Day, Commonwealth Day) with two uniquely local dates: Bermuda Day (May 24), which unofficially opens the swimming season with a marathon and parade, and Emancipation Day paired with Somers Day (late July/early August, the "Cup Match" holiday), tied to a famous inter-parish cricket match and the 1834 abolition of slavery in the British Empire.
