                          About Public Holidays in Malawi

Malawi's Independence Day (July 6, from Britain in 1964) sits alongside Chilembwe Day (January 15), honoring a preacher who led a 1915 uprising against colonial rule decades before independence itself, one of the earliest anti-colonial resistance figures honored on any calendar covered here.
