                          About Public Holidays in Denmark

Denmark abolished one of its own public holidays in 2024: Store Bededag ("Great Prayer Day"), a uniquely Danish spring holiday dating to 1686 that combined several minor Catholic-era prayer days into one, was converted into a normal working day to help fund defense spending, ending a nearly 350-year tradition. Constitution Day (June 5) remains a half-day closure rather than a full public holiday for most workplaces.
