About Public Holidays in São Tomé and Príncipe

São Tomé and Príncipe's Independence Day (July 12, 1975, from Portugal) anchors the calendar of one of Africa's smallest countries by population, an island nation in the Gulf of Guinea whose Portuguese colonial history shapes both its official language and its Catholic-holiday calendar.
